Hey guys! I recently wrote a little something for Eve – let me know what you think! Here’s an excerpt:
Language is a powerful thing when it comes to shaping society and how we interpret the world. The way we speak about women who own their sexuality and refuse to be ashamed of it reveals a cultural assumption that women can either be virgins or whores, and there’s nothing in-between. It reveals a ridiculous level of societal concern (and nosiness) about the sheer possibility that a woman might be promiscuous; religion and state are so concerned about female sexuality that it creates rules, unreasonable dress codes, and even legislation protecting this sacred, purely feminine purity.

There’s a huge gap between a virgin and slut. I mean virgin is obvious, but what is a definition for slut? Where’s the line between normal woman and a slut?

Hi Michaela! I would say that even though society likes to throw the word ‘slut’ around a lot, sluts don’t exist. A ‘slut’ is just what many decide to call a woman who isn’t ashamed of her sexuality. I don’t believe in a line between ‘normal woman’ and ‘slut’, because they’re one and the same – they’re just people 🙂

Sure, it’s always thanks to people. To me, as I keep seeing girls like that, the line is when a girl looses a respect to herself and her sexuality. Those are girls not respected by men and this is over a line to me. I don’t think they must chose that, but… who knows, maybe I’m a puritan. But self respect is very precious to me. And I’m actually sorry for girls who don’t have it (and I don’t tend to call them sluts, hate that word).

Hmm, I see what you’re saying 🙂 But then men don’t go around worrying about whether or not they’ll be respected just because they decide to have sex 😉
Thanks for sharing, Michaela!
